Vector artwork (graphics)
is the use of geometrical primitives such as
points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygons,
which are all based on mathematical equations,
to represent images in computer graphics.
"The best way I've found to explain vector
artwork is by saying it's a very
flexible computer image/graphic. It does not
use pixels like most work or illustrations
(raster images). Pixels can look sloppy when the
size is expanded or shrunk. Instead vector
artwork involves points and lines that allow the
image to be enlarged to the size of the moon or
shrunk to microscopic size and still remain the
same. It's one of the most versatile types of
computer graphics, allowing for almost any type
of printing. Vector graphics can be saved as a
pixel image, but a pixel image cannot be saved
as a vector (without being completely re-created
as one)."
